Thrift Gems + 3 tips that will change your thrifting game

Usually when I go to the market to thrift items, I never find good cheap things to buy. It’s either the items are really nice but a tad expensive or they are really cheap but not my style at all. But this last time I went to Yaba market, I was overwhelmed by the amount of beautiful clothes I saw at really cheap prices. I analyzed the situation and noticed that they were actually some things I was doing differently and it wasn’t just pure luck that shone on me.

1. Consciously started seeing beauty

I recently made a conscious choice to start seeing beauty everywhere around me and noticed that it helped when I went thrifting. I pick up an item that may not look too pretty at first but after a few seconds, I start to visualize all the gazillion ways I can wear that piece.

2. Patience

When thrifting, you have to understand that you may pick ten or twenty items before you find one appealing to you and you may not even end up finding anything. I’m naturally a very impatient person and once I have stayed three minutes without finding anything, I’m on to the next. This time around, I ensured I wasn’t with anyone that would rush me and I took time in finding things I wanted not settling down for items I wasn’t really excited about.

3. Bargaining

The seller’s price is hardly ever the last price. I remember a time I went thrifting and I bought items for 500 Naira each. As I paid for my items, there was this other lady bargaining with the seller and in my mind I knew he would not agree because I thought he was steadfast with his price. To my surprise, the items were sold to her at 350 Naira each and she wasn’t even buying a lot more than I was. This was when I made up my mind that I would always bargain till I can’t any further!
